George & Mary Woods of Shalford

George would have been born about 1760 but there were so many Woods families in the area at the time that it has not been possible to identify his parents.  He is known to have married Mary Whitbourne in Shalford on 9 December 1794 and had the following children baptised:

Richard 6 Dec 1795 Shalford
Elizabeth 4 Feb 1798 Shalford
Samuel 4 May 1800 Shalford

Of their children:

  • Richard married Maria Denyer and they lived in Catteshall, Surrey.
  • Samuel, an agricultural labourer, married Elizabeth Edwards in Guildford on 9 August 1835 and their children were:

In 1841 Samuel and Elizabeth were living in Peas Marsh, Shalford, with Henry, Jane and George, although Jane was shown as Mary.
In 1851 they were at Run Common, a hamlet in Wonersh, with Henry, George and Sarah. Robert James and Richard had all died in infancy.
In 1861 they were living in Church Road, Milford, just west of Godalming, with Sarah and David.
In 1871 they were at Summers Lane, Farncombe, just the other side of Godalming, with Sarah and David. Sarah was married and her married name was given as Worsefold.
