Antony Gormley's 'Another Place'

In 2005 we visited Crosby Sands to see 'Another Place' an installation by the artist Antony Gormley. It consists of 100 cast-iron, life-size figures spread out along three kilometers of the foreshore, stretching almost one kilometre out to sea.

Each figure is made from a cast of the artists own body Each cast iron figure weighs 650 kg Some have been dressed up by the public There are 100 figures along the sands .... .... and out in the sea All the figures stand looking out to sea .... .... staring at the horizon in silent expectation Some of the figures get totally submerged at high tide The work is seen as a poetic response to the individual and universal sentiments associated with emigration .... .... sadness at leaving, but the hope of a new future in another place The installation was originally intended to be temporary but is now permanent South end of Crosby sands near the docks Tower at Seaforth container base View towards the docks Cranes at Liverpool docks
