William & Phoebe Lee of Hindringham
William Lee, a son of Absalom and Mary, was baptised in Hindringham on 4th October 1741.
Phoebe Yaxley, a daughter of James and Deborah, was baptised in Sharrington on 1st September 1751.
William Lee married Phoebe Yaxley by licence in Hindringham on 31st December 1776. Both were said to be ‘of this parish’ and George Yaxley, probably Phoebe’s brother, was one of the witnesses.
Their children were all baptised in Hindringham but the first three were omitted from the register, along with other baptisms of that period. On 23rd February 1783 a note was made in the register giving their dates of birth with confirmation that they had all been baptised within a week of their births. Their ten children were:

William was buried in Hindringham on 4th September 1825, aged 85, and Phoebe was buried there on 26th February 1840, aged 88.

William married Elizabeth Hopkinson in Hindringham on 6th June 1801 and the witnesses were his siblings, Absalom, James and Mary. Nothing more is known about him.

Absalom was a blacksmith and in 1841 and 1851 they were living in Snettisham where Absalom was buried on 30th November 1853, aged 76.

James was in Hindringham in 1841 with Elizabeth, presumably his wife although no marriage has been positively identified. With them were William's brother George and his sister's illegitimate son William.

Mary married William Allison in Hindringham on 16th July 1811.

Phoebe married Thomas Raines from Wooton, in Sedgeford on 20th July 1805 and thay are known to have had six children baptised:

Thomas was a farm worker and they always lived in Sedgeford. Phoebe was buried there on 27th March 1866, aged 81.

John’s wife Margaret was with him in 1841 and must have died, although her burial has not been found, as John re-married to Mary Groom in Hindringham on 11th November 1855. The marriage register gives their ages as 65 and 45 repectively. In 1861 they were living in Church Street, Wells, but John was buried in Hindringham on 14th August 1867, aged 81.

Deborah had an illegitimate son, William Lee, baptised in Hindringham on 15th February 1829. In 1841 William was living with his uncle James and in 1861 and 1871 he was working on his uncle George's farm.

George became a farmer and in 1851 and 1861 they were living on Bale Road, Hindringham. In 1871 their house was shown as ‘Botany Bay’. In 1861 and 1871 they had Deborah’s son, William, living with them and working on George’s farm.
George was buried in Hindringham on 26th June 1872, aged 76.
